Sure, we were done with the houseboat part of the adventure, but we weren't quite ready to be done. We hopped in the car, stopped in Babbitt at Zup's for some bakery muffins and donuts, and headed to Jay Cooke State Park just south of Duluth. We walked across the swinging bridge and did the 3 mile river trail. It was perfect! We saw waterfalls, played in the water, and did plenty of climbing.
Yes, the leaves are already changing colors up north!
We made a stop in Clear Lake, Iowa for dinner. It's by far our favorite town in Iowa, but after a week in the clear, fresh water of Northern Minnesota, we couldn't help how unclear Clear Lake actually is! But we didn't have to worry much about it because it was pouring outside, so we ate our pizza in a covered shelter and then finished the drive home.
This was a wonderful end to our end of summer vacation that was filled with new experiences. We can't wait for our next Northern Minnesota getaway.
