"What kind of earrings did you get her?" I asked my husband.
"I don't know," he replied.
I questioned because upon inspecting my daughter's new set of earrings in her ears, I noticed they were very sparkly for first time earrings. My daughter smartly asked her dad to take her to get her ears pierced because "he has more free time." Her words, not mine! Now, dads do things differently than moms. Had it been me, I would have asked the prices of all of the earrings available to her and given her a few to choose from. But not my husband. He let her have free reign of earring choosing and didn't pay attention to price.
It wasn't until they got home, I asked about the final price, and my eyes nearly fell out of my head when he said (nearly) $200.
Those sparkly earrings were not the cubic zerconia that many first earrings are. No, no. After a bit of digging, comparing her ears to the pictures on the website, and really studying the receipt, we discovered why those earrings were so sparkly.
He bought our nine year old a pair of diamond stud earrings. I nearly fell out of my chair laughing at him. First earrings. Those things are likely to be put through the ringer and/or lost. They've already had mud splashed on them while she played (which my husband carefully wiped off for her). It will be amazing if we can keep them for her as a keepsake: "My First Earrings AND Diamond Earrings."
It's been three days and I can't stop giggling about it whenever I catch a glimpse of her ears. I can't wait to see what other earrings she picks out with her dad in the future....I guess there is a good reason she always talks dad into shopping!
