Welcome to our weekly Thursday morning post about what's going on in the Des Moines, Iowa area. We'll share what we'll be doing, great finds, restaurants to eat at, shops to drop some cash at, and just all the great things Des Moines has to offer families.
What We're Doing:
- Birthday Bash! The minis yearly birthday party, but for the first time we're doing it at our house. Hence all of the yard work and cleaning lately.
- Strawberry picking. Last summer we went raspberry picking (read more on that here) and the kids LOVED it. This year we're trying out strawberry picking at Iowa Orchard (see there Facebook page for details).
- Wading pool. If we have a chance to fit this in Sunday afternoon after strawberry picking we most definitely will! The kids are anxious to cool off in their favorite splash pad at Ashby Park.
Other Things Going On in the Metro:
- Winefest at the new Cowles Commons. I got a sneak peak of Cowles Commons last Friday and it actually looks pretty cool. Plus there's wine involved. It's a win-win in my book.
- Principal Charity Classic at Wakonda Club.
- Swimming pools. This looks like a good weekend to head to your favorite pool (two of our favorites: Ashworth Swimming Pool and Cascade Falls in Ankeny).
- Free fishing weekend. Last summer we went to Big Creek and took the minis fishing for the first time (read more on that here).
