A sure sign summer is here: LOTS of water cups in the backyard for thirsty, sweaty kiddos!
Summer is officially here at daycare! All of the summer kids are here, the kids were happily reunited with each other, and we began our summer activities and themed days! Take a look at our fun week:
We tried out the new Crayola Colorfoam. I was unsure of what it was or what to expect, but it is in fact just foam. It didn't stain and wiped off of the kids (and outdoor toys) easily. If we use this again I'll have the kids put on their swimming suits and use it as body paint.
My big helpers are here for the summer! I've never realized how helpful they can be until they weren't around for the school year. I'm very thankful that they enjoy helping me out, but I have a feeling it's because they get to be slightly bossy!
Already some attitude from the 4 year old. After quite the discussion, he felt the appropriate "punishment" would be to write out how sorry he was. Of course, he took the easy way out: I am a boy. I sorry.
The start of summer treat: ice cream cups and raspberries! The kids loved it!
The kids decided the cat was cold...he didn't even notice.
We celebrated the beginning of summer with a silly string fight! Most of the kids had a hard time straying their cans and instead handed them to me to spray on them while I chased them around the yard.
We celebrated by taking the kids out to eat at their favorite restaurant.
Our first theme day of the summer: Lemonade Stand Day! For safety reasons, we set up a lemonade shop/stand in the backyard and the kids sell each other cups of lemonade. We did this last year (read the details here) and the kids loved it. This year I let them pour it themselves (they did a great job!) and did an excellent job counting out the pennies to "pay" for the lemonade.
Their favorite lemonade: orange lemonade, which was a mixture of pink lemonade and regular (yellow) lemonade.
The kids colored lemonade cut outs with crayons. Max went a bit further and cut out a straw out of scrap paper.
Photo Booth Day was a blast! Read more about the fun here.
We broke out our Kinetic Sand sets. The kitchen was a mess, the bottoms of little feet had sand stuck on them, sand was tracked all over the house, but the kids had a great time with it (as usual).
Thank you Dollar Tree for the 100 piece Disney puzzles that kept the big kids busy during rest time.
My summer daycare helper started this week and has been a HUGE help! The kids call her Miss Silvia, but I call her my cousin. She's great with the kids, they love her, and the extra set of hands has been greatly appreciated with the extra kids around! We're excited to have her around for the rest of the summer.
This next week during daycare we'll start the week with a Cupcake Day (read more here), have a couple of days of free play, do some feet painting in the backyard, maybe run through a sprinkler or two (it will be the perfect hot and humid week for it), and we'll go over safety rules and procedures for Safety Day.
