A Morning At Chickasaw National Recreation Area

When we decided to head to Texas for an end of the homeschool year trip, we knew the drive was going to be rough. Last week we made the decision that driving through the night would be the best way to do it. This left us plenty of time for exploring as soon as daylight hit Thursday morning. We arrived in Sulphur, Oklahoma (about an hour away from OKC) and made a stop at Chickasaw National Recreation Area.

We were able to use the facilities (bathrooms) and stretch our legs in the Little Niagara Falls area. Chickasaw was once Platt National Park, but lost the status in the 70's. It is a gorgeous area! The park is incredibly well maintained. I was so impressed by every part we saw.

We walked about a mile before we hopped back in the car. We were sooo close to Davis, OK (about 15 minutes away) that we couldn't pass up having our favorite fried pies we discovered on our trip to Oklahoma two and a half years ago (read about that here).

Although it was a quick stop, we loved this place! I could see us easily spending a weekend here exploring.
