Day Date

The hubs and I don't often get to go out of the house together without the kids, but today was one of those rare occurrences that we did. The last few months, our family has been busy taking in the sights and sounds of Des Moines and other places in Iowa. We have been making lists and trying new things, so when I found a Groupon for the Beer, Wine, and Food Expo I had to purchase it. This went right along with our theme of trying new things that Iowa has to offer.
So the minis got to spend some time with Grandma and Grandpa Sheaffer and cousin Natalie while Matt and I made our way downtown for a bit of kid-free fun.

We went to the Beer, Wine, and Food Expo last year and quickly discovered it was best to eat a meal beforehand. We took our own advice this year and stopped at Centro for a quick bite to eat. I like to think we walked off this monstrosity as we made our way through the skywalk to Hy-Vee Hall.

One of my wonderful purchases. This is from a vineyard in Dubuque and has some very unique and good flavors of wine (strawberry rhubarb anyone??).
After the Expo, we made our way to the East Village for a bit of shopping. I finally got the shirt from Raygun I've been after!
We also had to have this book! After a week of crappy sleeping kids, I felt this book was appropriate for how we felt.

While we could have shopped and played well into the evening, Matt and I decided to head home. As we were having our "adult fun" the kids were having fun too:

One of the vendors at the Expo was giving out mustaches. We brought some home for the minis.

It was a very fun and much needed day out! I know I don't get out enough when I get irritated by all of the teenagers in their skin tight clothes, measuring themselves to see who was taller in the middle of Centro. I am officially old for feeling this way! It was nice to have an afternoon of adult activities, come home refreshed and ready to take on the parenting world again!

For those of you in the Des Moines area, I highly recommend you look into some of these events around town and all that Des Moines has to offer.
