2020 taught me A LOT. It taught me more than I realized about myself and it definitely pushed me to do things I never thought I would. It pushed me out of my comfort zone in so many ways. As 2021 arrived, I decided to embrace everything I have learned and do all the things. Give it a go, as my grandma would say. My first go of my 37th year was taking part in a virtual show of Expressing Motherhood: Parenting in a Pandemic edition. My area of expertise right about now.
I wrote my short story...actually several short stories. With all of my writing lately, I had numerous to choose from! This past Sunday, March 7th, I was a frenzied mess getting everything done during the day, so I could have a few hours to myself in the evening. My husband put on Oprah's Harry and Meghan special to keep the minis quiet (they've been dying to watch this one all week, oddly enough), I took up residence for the evening in my children's basement school room, and read my story to an audience I couldn't see over Zoom.
You can watch me and the other performers here (it's around one hour long, but soooo worth your time, I promise!):
I LOVED being a part of this show! The positivity from the other performers wrapped around the entire show. Although I couldn't see the audience, they kept me going with their comments in the chat. As I read my story, I felt it was fitting that I was in our basement turned school room turned studio for a night.
I couldn't be more proud to showcase my work the night before International Women's Day with a group of talented, strong women. If you're interested in submitting a piece, my friend and co-creator of Expressing Motherhood is accepting stories for the next virtual event (find info on her site here).
