Welcome to our weekly Thursday morning post about what's going on in the Des Moines, Iowa area. We'll share what we'll be doing, great finds, restaurants to eat at, shops to drops some cash at, and all of the great things Des Moines has to offer families.
What We're Doing:
- Sid The Science Kids at the Science Center of Iowa: the minis saw this on PBS and have been insisting we're going. It's suppose to be a gorgeous day out so we won't be spending a great deal of time there, but that's one of the perks of having our Sci Center membership! Go and leave whenever we please (bonus: it's paid for itself after a total of two visits!).
- Raccoon River Park: the minis favorite park. We'll be walking on the trail around the lake as well for some exercise.
- Birthday Parties: It's the season for birthday parties apparently. We're being kept busy the next couple of weekends with lots of birthday parties. Luckily they're at some pretty fun places!
Other Things To Do This Weekend:
- Iowa Cubs Game
- Barnstormers Game. We have yet to take the minis to a game, but I'd love to be able to take them to a game this year.
- Garage sales and consignment sale: Garage sales seem to be in full force this weekend! Craigslist is my favorite place to find garage sales because people often list exactly what they're selling. When on I'm the hunt for specific items (usually high ticketed items) I map out my route so I don't do any back tracking and can hit all of the places I want in a reasonable amount of time.
- It's going to be great patio weather this weekend! Last weekend (read more on that here) we went to El Rodeo in West Des Moines and sat on their patio for over an hour. We went early, had the entire patio pretty much to ourselves, drank margaritas, while the kids played games. It was heaven.
- Also, Snookies is open in Beaverdale! Stop by for a tasty treat and run into all of the Beaverdale neighborhood. Snookies stays pretty busy, but try to avoid the after dinner/ready for dessert rush. We made that mistake last weekend. Totally worth it, but could have probably picked a less busy time to visit!
