Today was the last day of school and with that I breathe a sigh of relief. I feel like our mornings no longer have to be rushed, we have no where to be at a certain time other than running in the backyard all day. I can lay out the well worn, ripped shorts and semi-stained shirts because they'll be getting muddy anyway. Most importantly, we can begin our summer of fun.
Not to say that the boy's kindergarten and three year old preschool year were exactly challenging or that we'll venture too far off from our "school schedule" this summer, but it's more than nice to know that I won't have to make sure my kids are up and out of bed, dressed, and out the door by a certain time every morning. We can have a leisurely morning, which more than likely consists of waking up, watching a cartoon, and then running to the backyard with their pajamas still on (and yes, I let this happen because this will only be acceptable for so long). There's no more school rides planning or school functions to attend. Playdates with school friends, soccor, and swimming lessons will take the place of school functions. Our schedule of obligations has been cleared for the next two months (even though it really hasn't, it just feels this way) and we've got lots of FUN scheduled.
I know I have my work cut out for me this summer as I try to keep my kids entertained and keep up with their school work so the boys will be ready for 1st grade and 4 year old preschool in the fall. I'm also quite positive the next blog to be written will be how I wish my children were back in school or that I'm ready to send one of them packing. But for today I am more than happy that summer has officially begun in our house. A part of me is quite happy to have all of my kids with me every day for the next several weeks and I plan to enjoy it as much as possible.
