Mom's Night Out

Once you have kids, it's no joke that life changes. A lot. If you're like me, that meant closing the bar down at 2 a.m. doesn't happen...hell, even staying out past 10 p.m. rarely happens (if ever again). This past weekend, I hit up downtown Des Moines to celebrate my sister's birthday. It had been YEARS since I'd been out so late. I was slightly impressed with myself and even more impressed that I had no issues getting up and functioning the next morning (the kids were all mine while Hubs was at work).

I will say the biggest difference in going out when you're (nearly) 33 vs. 23 is that the bar scene is a foreign lifestyle to me now. First off, yoga pants are now acceptable to wear anywhere I guess (we actually had a wonderful discussion on how women can somewhat get away with this but if I guy were to wear workout clothes to a bar it's unacceptable). Secondly, I'm not used to going to the bars where the liquor is cheap and the drinks are watered down. I've been having top shelf (or maybe middle shelf??) for a while now. It was a bit hard on my taste buds. Third, oh how happy I am to be married. If I ever worried I was getting bored in my marriage (I'm not so no worries), taking one look at the dating scene made me REALLY happy to have the "boring" married life. While it was a lot of fun, I'm very content sitting on my couch Neflixing it for the next few years when I decide to go out again.

Here's some pics and videos from my night out:

We had a wonderful dinner at Malo.

We tried out (okay, so I did, everyone else had been places) a couple of country bars. I feel like a better and more enlightened person for attending these places. Also, again, really happy I'm not doing this every weekend.

Until next time bar scene!
