What We're Reading

The kiddos here LOVE to read! What use to be 15 minute story times have become 30 minutes to an hour every day! Here are their favorite books from the past few weeks that we've read. We do rotate books, but read all of these multiple times a week. We also put our Fall and Halloween books into the rotation at the beginning of September and have added a new book to it each week (thank you Scholastic book order!).

Here is what we've been reading:

  • Pete The Cat: Pete At The Beach
  • Pete The Cat The Wheels On The Bus
  • Pete The Cat And The Four Groovy Buttons
  • Zip Zippity Doo I Love You (this was written by a local author and one of my favorite children's book)
  • Quiet Loud (we have been reading this to help learn inside and outside voices and appropriate speaking level)
  • Goodnight, Goodnight Construction Sight
  • Sesame Street: Sleep Tight
  • Harry The Dirty Dog
  • Five Little Monkeys Jumping On The Bed (this is a great reminder as to why we don't jump/lunge off of/or crash into the couch)
  • Big Little
  • Curious George Big Little (this has been great for the two and three year old crowd)
  • Dragons Love Tacos
  • If You Give A Mouse A Cookie
  • Have Fun Molly Lou Melon
  • Three Little Pigs
  • The True Story Of The Three Little Pigs (the younger kids don't really get this book, but the older kids love it)
  • Alexander And The Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day
  • The Nose Book (and all other Dr. Seuss books are read multiple times a week)
  • Brown Bear, Brown Bear
  • Llama, Llama Home With Mama
  • Harold And The Purple Crayon
  • Curious George Make Pancakes (and all other Curious George books)
  • Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mikey's Monster (I have a few little boys who love to steal the oldest mini's Turtle books and read them)
  • No More Diapers (great for potty training girls)
  • Little Mommy
  • Today Was A Terrible Day
  • Hooray! Hooray! Imagination Day! (this is from the same local author as Zip Zippty Doo and another of my favorites)
  • Red Or Blue, I Like You!
  • The Best Mouse Cookie
  • Daniel Tigers Neighborhood books (we have several)
  • Sesame Street: Shake A Leg! (this is great to get kids moving and dancing)
  • Pajama Time!
  • The Very Hungary Caterpillar
  • We're Going On A Bear Hunt
  • One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish (their favorite Dr. Seuss book we read)
  • No No Yes Yes (this book always gets the kiddos laughing and gets them talking about the things they should and shouldn't do)
  • The Berenstain Bears And The Tooth Fairy (this has been a huge hit since Max began losing this baby teeth)
  • The Going To Bed Book
  • Amelia Bedelia And The Baby
  • Miss Nelson Is Missing
  • Miss Nelson Is Back
  • The Day Jimmy's Boa Ate The Wash
  • There's A Monster At The End Of This Book
  • Knuffle Bunny and Knuffle Bunny Too
  • Engine Nine, Feelin' Fine!
  • Berenstain Bears And Baby Makes Five (the middle mini Harrison has been obsessed with this book the past few weeks....someone may be having little sister issues)
  • I Can Dress Myself
  • Chicka Chicka Boom Boom
  • Curious George Plays Mini Golf
  • Caillou Walks His Dog
  • Goodnight Moon
  • Corduroy
  • Click, Clack, Moo Cows That Type
  • Discover Iowa (also from a local author who has an entire Discover series based on things in Iowa)
  • Baker, Baker Cookie Maker

 Our Fall and Halloween reads:
  • There Was An Old Lady Who Swallowed A Bat!
  • There Was An Old Lady Who Swallowed Some Leaves! (these books seriously concern me, but the kids love them. We do end every book with a quick review of why we don't eat the things the old lady eats!)
  • Biscuit Visits The Pumpkin Patch
  • Little Critter: The Fall Festival
  • Why Do Leaves Change Color?
  • It's The Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown
  • The Berenstain Bears Trick Or Treat
  • Sesame Street: Spooky Sleep-Out
  • Caillou Dresses Up
  •  Curious George Goes To A Costume Party
  • Curious George Apple Harvest (we read this before we did our backyard apple orchard)
  • The Berenstain Bears And The Prize Pumpkin (technically a Thanksgiving book, but the kids are obsessed with Berenstain Bears books)

One of favorite things about having these little readers around is when I hear them trying to read a book to themselves or the other kids.

Next week we'll be adding "Clifford The Big Red Dog" books into the mix and we'll also be doing some fun activities with the "If You Give" book series ("If You Give A Moose A Muffin," "If You Give A Cat A Cupcake," and several others). We will also be writing our own daycare book at some point this winter. Nothing makes me happier than having kids that love to read!
