Recently we've been doing family paintings for the different holidays and seasons. We did ourFamily Hand Print Painting, A Daycare Painting, a back to school poem that we painted, and now a Holiday Painting. Hubs had the idea for a hand print Christmas tree and guided us on the painting details, although it's a fairly fool proof painting.
We covered the canvas with red paint (washable--a must when involving three kids). Once dried, Matt put painters tape on and outlined the tree shape to make it easier for the kids to see where their hand prints should go.
We used 3 colors of green paints: a dark green, regular green, and a bright green.
We got rather messy with the green paint so I had to put (several) more coats of paint on after the tree dried.
Once the red paint dried, we had the kids use their finger tips to paint on the ornaments using metallic paints.
The last step was painting on the star. We used a cookie cutter to outline the star with yellow metallic paint and then our fingers to fill it in.
As soon as it was dry, it was hung on our wall. I'm please with how it turned out. The only thing I would do differently is not outline the tree shape with tape. The tree has clean edges, but I would like the imperfections of the edges of the hands.
