Welcome to our weekly Thursday morning post about what's going on in the Des Moines, Iowa area. We'll share what we'll be doing, great finds, restaurants to eat at, shops to drop some cash at, and just all the great things Des Moines has to offer families.
What We're Doing:
- Holiday Promenade in the East Village. If the snow doesn't keep us away, we'll be attending. Otherwise it will be a chili, hot chocolate, and Netflix kind of night...and I'm totally okay with that.
- Winter Market
- Tour de Lights
Other Happenings In Des Moines:
- Santa's Arrival, Holiday Tree Lighting, and Fireworks at Jordan Creek Town Center.
- Opening day of ice skating at Brenton Skating Plaza.
- Iowa Energy Games (Saturday and Sunday games) or Ball at the Mall, Saturday 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. (Merle Hay Mall)
- Vendor Fair, Craft Show, and Bake Sale for the ARL
More Things To Do:
- Holiday shopping. Stores apparently thought the Christmas season started the week of Halloween so we may as well get a start on your shopping before the stores get even more insane.
- Bowling. Cold where you live? Go bowling (or buy a bowling set for home if you don't feel like leaving your house) to get some energy out.
- Play at a park. Kids love parks whether it's warm, hot, or cold outside.
- Hot chocolate bar. We're expecting our first snowfall of the season and cold weather. You can bet I'm breaking out the homemade hot chocolate recipe and setting up a hot chocolate bar for the kiddos.
