Weekend Planner

Welcome to our weekly Thursday morning post about what's going on in the Des Moines, Iowa area. We'll share what we'll be doing, great finds, restaurants to eat at, shops to drop some cash at, and just all the great things Des Moines has to offer families.
What We're Up To:
  • Not much! We've got to get some items crossed off our To Do list before school begins! I'll be spending time writing blogs, hair cuts for the kids, work done on the minivan, and the kids will be enjoying their toys at home minus having to share them with the daycare kids (this is a big deal to them!).
Other Things To Do:
  • Take a walk on the State Capitol grounds. See the sculptures and great views of downtown.
  • While you're in the East Village area, stop at Raygun for some shopping and Zombie Burger for a bite to eat.
  • Get in some swimming pool/wading pool time! Only a couple of more weeks left for public pools to be open. I recommend Cascade Falls in Ankeny, Ashworth Swimming Pool in Des Moines (by the Art Center), or Union Park wading pool (which must include a ride on the carousel and playing on the rocket playground).
  • Movie in the Park: Colby Park in Windsor Heights is showing one of my kid's faves Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day tonight (Friday) at dusk.
  • Saturday there is a local author's event at Beaverdale Books (I will not be participating in this one). Stop by, buy a book or two (it's one of my favorite book stores to visit), head to Beaverdale Confections for a box of chocolates, and then Grounds for Celebration for coffee and my favorite cinnamon roll in town.
