When Silvia (my cousin and daycare helper for the summer) and I were thinking of activities for the kids, one of the theme days thrown out was Dancing Day. We envisioned teaching the kids dances such as the hand jive, line dancing, and the YMCA. As with most things, it didn't go quite as planned but most of the kids loved our Dance Party!
No dance party would be complete with a handmade disco ball. I reused a paper ball we had used for the daycare 4th of July Party and covered it with aluminum foil. The kids were mildly disappointed that the ball didn't light up, but got over it pretty quickly when they saw that it moved (thanks to being attached to the ceiling fan).
The older kids were happily learned the dances (particularly the YMCA), but the younger kids weren't really into much. After a couple of attempts to get the dances going, we did the limbo. The kids LOVED it and actually did a pretty good job at it, although they couldn't quite remember to NOT touch the ground!
We brought balloons for an hour and a half of dancing, jumping, singing, balloon hitting/dodging, laughing, and fun. It was a great morning that left the kids (and me!) sweating and tired!
