Weekend Planner

At the Science Center the same time last January (2015).

Welcome to our weekly Thursday morning post about what's going on in the Des Moines, Iowa area. We'll share what we'll be doing, great finds, restaurants to eat at, shops to drop some cash at, and just all the great things Des Moines has to offer families.
What We're Doing:
  • The Science Center of Des Moines. Putting our renewed pass to use for the first time this year.
  • Fuzzy's. This should be a fantastic lunch spot for us after the Science Center.
  • Goodnight Moon and Runaway Bunny at the Civic Center.
  • Hanging out at home. The high for Sunday is suppose to be a balmy 9 degrees. Seems like a perfect day to spend in sweats, baking, cooking, reading a book, and watching Netflix.
Other Happenings:
  • Family movies at Reiman Gardens, Saturday 10 a.m. and 1 p.m.
  • The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe at the Des Moines Community Playhouse.
  • A walk around the trail at Raccoon River Park. Saturday seems like our last decent day for a while. It may be a great day to get out and get some exercise on the 3 mile loop around the lake and finish with playing at the playground.
  • Roller skating. We took the kids last week and had a blast! It's a great energy waster for all.
  • Skywalk. Good portions of the skywalk are closed due to construction projects, but it's still our go-to place to let the kids run around in the middle of winter.
Down Time Activities for Home:
  • Canvas painting. The minis have done a few of these (our Holiday Painting andSnowman are the latest). Not only does it keep them entertained and give them something to do, but kids are always soooo proud of their finished product.
  • For parents: check out Making a Murderer on Netflix, X-Files reruns (who else is psyched for the new episodes later this month!!??!!), listen to season two of Serial, or read All The Light We Cannot See (currently obsessed).
