Weekend Planner

Right before our Cookie Picnic three years ago

What We're Doing:

  • Members Night at the Blank Park Zoo
  • Sargent Park. Sunday looks like a great day for a spray park!
  • Downtown Farmer's Market. I'm making it a point to take the minis for the first time this year. Pupusas, egg rolls, raspberry cinnamon rolls, and more are calling our names.

Other Things To Do:

  • Check out your local/nearby zoo or wildlife refuge
  • Feed ducks and/or geese at a pond
  • Pack a picnic and head to your favorite park, lake, or beach for lunch and playtime
  • Make a list of summer goals: where you want to go, events you want to attend, things you want to see. There will be no time to "get bored" when summer begins! Have each member of your family come up with a few things they want to do/see/experience.

Happenings Around Des Moines, IA:

  • Iowa Chocolate Festival
  • Check out the Art Center's Rose Garden and walk around Greenwood Park
  • Des Moines Menace Soccer Game
  • Moon Float (Grey's Lake Park). This could be a romantic date night if you have a sitter already lined up!
  • Pedal the Prairie at Neal Smith Wildlife Refuge. If biking isn't your thing, walk the two mile trail to see the bison and/or learn fascinating facts about the wildlife in Iowa in the learning center. When you're done, head into Prairie City and eat at Goldie's Ice Cream Shoppe
  • Valley Junction Art Festival (Saturday, 11 a.m. - 4 p.m.)
