Welcome to our weekly Thursday morning post about what's going on in the Des Moines, Iowa area. We'll share what we'll be doing, great finds, restaurants to eat at, shops to drop some cash at, and just all the great things Des Moines has to offer families.
What We're Doing:
- Vegas baby! Look for a post with lots of pictures next week on the blog.
- Apple orchard. My parents are watching the kids while the Hubs and I play. They have plans to head to one of the local orchards.
Happenings in Des Moines:
- Family Night at the Science Center of Iowa, Friday 5 - 8 p.m.
- Numerous orchards/pumpkin patches open for the season this weekend. Check out Des Moines Parent for a great list of pumpkin patches. We've gone to Happy Apple Orchard for the past two years and have love it (read about our experiences here and here).
- Downtown Farmer's Market. It's suppose to be a cool weekend, which makes for great market weather! Check out the fall goodies vendors will have and be sure to eat a pupusa for me. You will not be sorry.
- Monarch Madness at Neal Smith Wildlife Refuge
- Into The Woods at the Des Moines Playhouse. This would make a great date night/day!
- Family Days at the Races. Sunday at Prairie Meadows.
- Check out hiking at Chichaqua Bottoms Greenbelt. We loved it when we went a few weeks ago (read about that hike here).
