Ever since the kids and I did our Tour of Parks, we've been looking for more Tours to go on. During our Tour of Wading Pools this past summer, the kids and I thought it would be fun to do a Tour of Pumpkin Patches. The object is simple: go to as many local pumpkin patches as we can possibly fit in. Unlike our other Tours that we did in a single weekend, our Tour of Pumpkin Patches will take place over the next six weeks.
This was an incredibly busy weekend, so we didn't get to Center Grover Orchard as planned. Instead we fit in Iowa Orchard quickly on Sunday afternoon. This is a small apple orchard with a Kids Fun Zone at the back of the property. The great thing about this orchard is that it's in town and a quick 10 minute drive from our house. The Fun Zone isn't anything spectacular, but our kids were perfectly happy with the hay slides and corn box.
Shopping in the Iowa Orchard shop is a must and if you have time, stop out to their second location in Grimes (an easy 15-20 minute drive from their location on Meredith Dr.) to pick your own apples. When Matt and I were in Las Vegas, my parents took the kids apple picking there. They were the best apples we've had in a long time!
On this day, we only had time for the Fun Zone and shop. The kids picked out a bushel of Honeycrisp apples, apple cider, caramel apples, and apple butter. Not surprisingly it was all amazing.
If I had it my way, we would have skipped the Fun Zone all together, gone apple picking again, and picked out goodies from the shop.
Next weekend will be devoted to pumpkin patches. On our list for Weekend 3: Patches, Wills, Howell's, and the Pumpkin Ranch.
