A (Partial) Weekend Without Kids

For the first time since March, we spent a night away from the minis. Or rather, they spent a night away from us! Who knows what winter will bring, so the minis and dog went to my parents for a day and night. They took them apple picking, baked apple pies, and then spent a fair amount of time trying to wrangle the crazy pup (or so it's been reported). Meanwhile, Hubs and I road tripped to the Loess Hills area of Iowa for a long hike up and down the hills. We slowed it down on Sunday and ate chili, watched football, and rested. The break from the minis was much appreciated considering we/I have had very few breaks!

On top of the observation tower.

We've had hazy skies over much of Iowa thanks to the wildfires on the West Coast.

Even though we were sans kids, I was still talking about the rocks and mineral found in the Loess Hills.

Two bad moves for hiking: I failed to put on bug spray and I forgot to put on my hiking shoes. My walking shoes are NOT made for going up and down hills! We managed 3 1/2 miles before I was ready to call it quits.

Our starting point from our calling it quits point.

White chicken chili and Crescent rolls for our Chili Sunday.
